A client who wanted an RHS Chelsea Flower Show People's Choice garden completed before her wedding so that she could hold a party in it the following day was "over the moon" at Bowles & Wyer's recreation of Thomas Hoblyn's prize-winning design at her Virginia Water property.
The original was inspired by the gardens at Villa Lante and Villa d'Este and featured the Italian travertine stone, long fountain seat, mirror pool and stepping stones of the Chelsea design, alongside the layout, box and yew hedging and new plants including Allium Cernum, Lavandula intermedia 'Grosso' and Osmanthus burkwoodii.
The team, which included water feature expert Andrew Ewing who also worked on Chelsea, had six weeks to complete the garden. Bowles & Wyer landscaper Dan Riddleston said there was extra pressure, despite being used to building to time, especially at Chelsea. "We wanted to make sure she got her garden on time. Every client is special but this was more so."
