Defra farming minister and Cambridgeshire farmer Jim Paice has followed environment secretary Caroline Spelman through the out door in the ministerial reshuffle.
His replacement David Heath is one of only a few Liberal Democrat MPs to be promoted in the current reshuffle, and contrasts with Spelman's replacement Owen Paterson, considered to be on the right of the Conservative Party.
A former optician and local councillor, Heath has represented the rural constituency of Somerton and Frome since 1997, and has previously served as the LibDems' spokesman for agriculture and rural affairs.
UK production horticulture can become more profitable under one possible Brexit scenario, while other more drastic scenarios will lead to only minor losses in profitability, in contrast to other farming sectors, according to a new report by levy body AHDB with Agra CEAS Consulting.
One area affected by the uncertainty around Brexit will be the ongoing development of agricultural technology, seen by many as essential to retain Britain's productivity and competitiveness in fresh produce along with other farming sectors.
