JCB celebrates 500,000th backhoe loader

Machinery manufacturer JCB recently celebrated the milestone of making its 500,000th backhoe loader - the machine that made the company famous around the world.

The first unit rolled off the production line in Rocester, Staffordshire, in 1953. It took the company 12 months to build 35 of the machines and it then took a further 20 years for it to make 50,000 units.

Today, one JCB backhoe loader rolls off the production line at the factory every three minutes.
