The diversity of products and services on display attracts visitors from a myriad of grounds care and open space venues.
Seven out of 10 visitors attend Saltex to source new products, services or suppliers, with nearly four in 10 expecting to place orders as a result of visiting. Machinery and tools remain the most popular product categories, followed by turf, seeds, sands, soils, aggregates, landscaping, arboriculture, horticulture, sports and play equipment and commercial vehicles.
Saltex is also the place for updating knowledge. The education programme features seminars and forums on arboriculture, education and training, landscaping and play as well as a full day of golf sessions (3 September) programmed by the British & International Golf Greenkeepers Association.
If you have questions, make a beeline for the "IoG Hub". Head groundsmen from Real Madrid FC, Twickenham, Wembley and Wimbledon feature on this year's "ask the expert" advice panel. Also attending the walk-in clinics are national manager Jason Booth and eight regional pitch advisers from the Grounds & Natural Turf Improvement Programme, the new £1.3m initiative funded by national sports governing bodies, Sport England and the IoG.
Turf-focused debates are also taking place in the IoG Hub. Subjects covered include compaction and turf recovery, soil testing, sustainable soil biology, top dressing with organics/composts, aeration, fertiliser planning and water management.
BALI is also holding its AGM at the show and The Parks Alliance is staging an open workshop on "The State and Future of UK Parks". The Amenity Forum will chair a panel debate on the control of pests, weeds and diseases in the amenity sector.
"There's no doubt that this year's education programme is the most comprehensive ever, with an unprecedented level of advice and knowledge-sharing being offered for free," says event director Jon Gibson. He forecasts: "Saltex will be a fount of information and knowledge, as well as offering definitive product updates, for everyone involved in the industry."
