Insurance survey

A survey for Nationwide building society, which provides insurance for gardeners, has found that 35 per cent of people value their garden contents at between £250 and £1,000.

Nationwide suggested that gardeners undertake precautions including: photographing expensive items such as potted plants, ornaments and furniture so that they can be easily identified if stolen; investing in some ground anchors that can be used to secure garden furniture and ornaments to the ground; and not leaving tools lying around the garden because they can be used as an aid to gain entry to the house.
