Insight into gardening history to feature in Ulf Nordfjell's third design for RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Swedish designer Ulf Nordfjell is to unite classic styles of French and English gardens for next year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The Laurent-Perrier Garden will offer a contemporary take on a romantic garden and draws inspiration from Nicole de Vésian’s famous garden La Louve in Provence and Ulla Molin’s private garden in Höganäs Sweden.

"The gardens echo the beauty of their surrounding landscapes by using simple forms and pruned, soft shapes," he said. "Both Nicole and Ulla were renowned for modernising horticulture in their respective regions."

Nordfjell, who returns to Chelsea for the third time, has chosen to emulate their approach but with a more symmetrical feel. Use of trees and shrubs have a French style while common English perennials pay homage to its Chelsea setting.

"For Laurent-Perrier’s 15th show garden I have tried to offer an insight into gardening history through my design, translating the garden into something that is uniquely mine
