Indoor plants need a retail boost, says Efig judge

Indoor Garden Design director Ian Drummond says garden centre staff need more training in giving indoor plant advice to customers.

He added that there is a lack of choice in the UK market for indoor plants, with IKEA and DIYs dominating but stocking narrow ranges, while garden centres are generally seeing long-term decline in sales.

According to Drummond, big leafed indoor plants are fashionable this year.

On this year's Efig Indoor Plant of the Year 2015 shortlist are:  fig, cheese plant and Medinilla Magnifica.

Efig will announce the winner for the start of the third National Plants at Work Week (13 - 17 July).

Drummond was chairman of judges for the award. HW's Matthew Appleby was a judge.
