Ifor Williams’s range of commercial trailers shouts durability and toughness. And we know these trailers — flatbeds, beavertails, tilt-beds, tippers, general-purpose and plant trailers — are renowned for their easy towing. But the latest models also have plenty of style.
The Eurolight is the latest pedigree from the Ifor Williams stable. It attracts our attention from across the aisle — the almost seductive satin-finish drop sides and tailboard give this model an air of individuality. This is a trailer that will turn heads.
“The company has introduced aesthetic changes and the result looks very nice,” says our tester.
But looks aren’t everything. Trailers need to work. This one has been designed for commercial and domestic markets, using small commercial vehicles or even cars for towing.
There is a choice of 11 models in this multi-purpose trailer range and all of them are light. The smallest measures 2.08m by 1.30m, has a maximum gross weight of 1,000kg and weighs just 225kg. The largest has a bed length of 3.68m, is 1.58m wide and weighs a mere 403kg, while its maximum gross weight is 2,000kg.
So what corners have been cut to keep the weight down? To be fair, Eurolight trailers incorporate all the high standards expected from Ifor Williams. There is the resin-coated, high-density plywood platform, providing a waterproof and grippy base. Then there are the thermo-plastic mudguards and the lockable coupling with adjustable height. Full regulation lighting, spare wheel and carrier, plus security marking and registration with the Equipment Register are also standard.
Options include the aluminium or steel headboard and easy-latch dropsides, loading skids, ladder rack, mesh sides, skid carrier and lashing rings. The rings are recessed into the floor.
The Eurolight is a good option if you are going to tow with a car or light commercial vehicle. For heavy machinery and plant, however, you need to take a look at Ifor Williams’s range of flat-bed, tiltbed, beavertail and plant trailers.
The company also offers a range of box vans for those needing to move bulky loads, items likely to be damaged by the elements or lots of small machinery and power tools that need to be kept out of sight.
