ICL celebrates 50 years of Levington

ICL celebrated Levington's golden anniversary at Four Oaks trade show this week, as well as launching new improved Osmocote Exact High K and Osmocote PrePlant.

ICL UK and Ireland business director Stephen Squires said: "Levington has been the 'go to' brand of growing media for the past 50 years. Following continuous R&D and investment, this iconic growing media range remains synonymous with quality and consistency.

"Levington growing media became part of the ICL portfolio in 2011. A global player in the horticultural market, we remain committed to carrying on the development of this pioneering brand - the first research based peat substrate for UK growers. We remain at the forefront of developments in peat-reduced mixes and ICL has also recently launched a high performance peat- free range, Levington Advance Sustain.

"A substrate is only as good as its raw materials and the skill of the team producing it. Carrying on the Levington tradition, ICL has its own supply of high quality UK peat and sources of equivalent quality imported peats. All stocks are carefully graded and blended at the company's state-of- the-art production facilities in Scotland."

New launches included dual coating technology new improved Osmocote Exact High K, promoting better compact growth.

ICL technical manager Andrew Wilson said: "Following nearly 50 years of innovation, this fourth generation Osmocote product utilises a second coating with a different composition to deliver programmed nutrient release. A percentage of granules have a dual coating to postpone nutrient release by up to three months, depending on the product longevity.

"Utilising our patented DCT technology, ICL can now further manipulate nutrient release to match plants' demands even more closely."

Osmocote PrePlant, a new pre-planting fertilizer to help growers and landscapers add value to their offering and help boost incremental sales to the landscaping sector, also launched at Four Oaks.

Wilson said: "Giving plants in landscaping schemes the best possible start, Osmocote PrePlant is the latest addition to our tried and tested, marketing leading Osmocote controlled release fertilizer range. The fully coated granules provide full season nutrition for plants in a single application, with minimal leaching."

Designed for use when planting trees, hedging plants, hardy nursery stock (HNS) and herbaceous perennials, Osmocote PrePlant provides an ideal NPK and trace element package (16-11- 10+2MgO+TE) promoting good establishment and ongoing healthy plant growth. It is suitable for a wide range of trees and plants including Rhododendrons, Azaleas and Buxus, without fear of root scorching.

According To Edwards ... Changes large and small anticipated for UK producers

No one knows the changes that Brexit will impose on the UK over time. Some will surely be massive and they are already being guessed at. But there will be little changes too and some of those will ripple out over time to surprisingly large effect. I don't pretend to know what will happen, but it's fun to speculate.
