Where can I get a Classen precision seeder? I've heard they are good machines.

It’s a good time to be thinking about preparing for seeding and the Classen is an excellent machine, albeit at a price. Self propelled, with front-wheel drive, this pedestrian seeder works well at a good walking pace. It’s a drill seeder, with steel blades spaced at 5cm intervals across the 51cm working width. It will accommodate most seed types and the  sowing depth is adjustable via a fingertip screw down to 3.8mm. At 91cm wide, it fits through most standard gateways.
Now the bad news: the Classen used to be imported into the UK by PLM Power Products of Tiverton (formerly of Staffordshire), but I am told that shipping prices have made this venture prohibitive. You may be able to pick one up second hand, but I’m doubtful. A better bet would be to contact the manufacturer, US-based Little Wonder. Try looking at www.littlewonder.com.
There are other pedestrian seeders available in the UK, but not many. Sisis recently stopped manufacturing the pedestrian-operated Auto-Seeder. However, BLEC offers the Uni-Seeder — a 61cm hydrostatic-drive machine for overseeding — and the 60cm Seedmaster, which is capable of both overseeding and initial seeding. And DJ Turfcare of Dunsfold in Surrey is now supplying an overseeding model with 67cm working width. The latter is “push” power but has the advantage of doubling as a topdresser. If it fits your requirements, it may also fit your budget. The DJ overseeder is priced at £480 ex VAT.
