HTA reports 10% garden centre sales growth in November

Initial results of latest industry survey show garden centres beating high street trends.

Provisional numbers from the HTA's Retail Business Benchmark survey (58 reports to date) show November sales in garden centres and nurseries 10% higher than November last year, bringing total sales growth for the past three months to 6.1%.

Comparing this result with the latest Office for National Statistics numbers, which put value growth over the same three months at 2.6% for all retailers, this shows garden centres continuing to outperform the wider market.

HTA marketing director Andrew Maxted said: "By all accounts, Christmas lines sold well during November.

"National Garden Gift Vouchers sales have been very strong over the past six weeks and remain on track for a record year."
