HSE issues advice for pesticide users

The Health & Safety Executive has issued a statement on best practice for those applying pesticides using a vehicle on footpaths or in other public areas.

The advice states: "The use of handheld pesticide application equipment by the driver of a moving vehicle is not appropriate and does not represent good practice in applying pesticides.

"Hand lances may be attached to or carried on vehicles but should only be used when the vehicle is stationary and not in gear."

Nomix Enviro managing director Mark Phillips said: "This statement will undoubtedly improve the safety of weed control operations on footpaths and deter bad practice. As an industry, we can no longer defend the indefensible."
