Hot Sellers - Vegetable seeds/seed potatoes/primroses

Retailer: Ruskington Garden Centre, Lincolnshire

It has been a good start to the year at Ruskington Garden Centre, with strong demand for early spring products despite it still being the middle of winter. Partner Karen Elkington said the sales weren't that unusual for the time of year. She was "very optimistic" about the coming season despite economic warnings. The company is redeveloping Belton Garden Centre, in Lincolnshire, which it acquired six months ago.

Vegetable seeds Vegetable seeds remain a strong seller with the "grow your own" trend looking as though it will remain a key aspect of gardening this year.

Seed potatoes The garden centre stocks a wide range of seed potatoes and has been enjoying strong sales with them. The centre is in a rural area and there is great demand for grow-your-own vegetables including potatoes, she said.

Primroses A great plant to offer colour at this time of the year, primroses have been selling exceptionally well lately, Elkington said.
