Homebase restructures store support

Buying and 'store support' functions at Wesfarmers-owned Homebase are undergoing a restructure.

A proposed new Homebase trading team is believed to consist of a general manager, nine category managers and 22 buyers and their assistants please, with a points system to evaluate the workforce.

Homebase would not comment on the specifics but said: "In the first week of April we advised our team about a proposed restructure of all Store Support Functions. In accordance with the required regulatory process, we are speaking with the people whose jobs will be affected first and, as such, we won’t comment in any detail while we are involved in a consultation process.

"What we can say is that we are not simply making across the board changes. Rather, we are reshaping the support resource to allow us to help the stores in the best manner possible.

"We have committed to our team that we will move forward as quickly as we can and that we will treat every team member affected generously and with respect."

Wesfarmers, which owns Australian DIY/garden centre chain Bunnings bought Homebase in January and has already shed Homebase's directors and started cutting prices.
