Hearing to be held over Notcutts plan to bring four retailers to vacant Bagshot site

Notcutts has revealed plans for the empty half of the two retail units on its former garden centre in Bagshot.

The garden centre chain was to have taken the second unit alongside a new Waitrose, which opened this August.

But Notcutts pulled out because the scheme would not be viable for a garden centre to succeed.

Notcutts has not been able to find a tenant for the vacant space it did not want so had applied to Surrey Heath Borough Council (SHBC) to alter its planning permission to turn the vacant unit into four shops - a coffee shop, a pet shop, an outdoor clothing shop and one more.

The council’s case officer has recommended that the plans are refused on the grounds that Notcutts do not explain the anticipated effect four new shops would have on existing businesses in the area.

A hearing is to be held on 13 October.
