Growers watch live kit demos

Growers enjoyed live demonstrations of equipment at last week's Fruit Focus, including a display of Haygrove's Pic-King 5 Series machine.

The machine is designed for harvesting strawberries but is also used for planting, runner cutting and deflowering.

The Pic-King 5 Series has also been adapted for harvesting asparagus - both in the open field and under low-lever cloche covers.

The machines can be configured at the point of manufacture for a range of growing systems and widths. To date, eight-, 10- and 12-picker machines have been commissioned. Haygrove's harvesting rigs include a feature allowing the pickers to slow down by moving the seat forward and back if they have a plant with too much fruit on it.

Also on display was a soft fruit sprayer from Equipment Supply Services. The Nicolas Tornafruit is a specialist pneumatic sprayer for use on strawberries and other bed or row crops. Made of durable polyester, it has an integral clean water tank and its piston diaphragm pump can deliver 50 litres/minute.
