"Desiccation timing is all important in stopping tuber development at precisely the right point," said Syngenta South West area manager Duncan Woodward.
"Using Reglone could stop further tuber bulking and ensure a clean lift at harvest," he added. "If there is enough moisture at tuber depth to create a ball of soil, you can use the full rate, but if it is too dry and the soil crumbles, ini-tial dose should be limited to one litre per hectare."
The initial low-dose application would trigger senescence, initiate skin set and start to halt tuber bulking, he said. A second application after five to seven days, once senescence has started, could be at two to four litres per hectare.
