The co-operative has based its business on supplying gas and electricity at group discounts to growers, but now Adamson wants to expand further into sundries and to supply garden centres too, particularly with energy supply.
New Forest Growers has 55 members and was run by James Murphy for 27 years until his recent retirement. Adamson, who was at New Forest Plants, said: "We're trying to become more relevant to today's market with new suppliers."
The co-operative is rebranding and adding lines such as gas cylinders, baskets and thermal rolls. Members join by buying 50 shares at £1 each. Adamson hopes to grow the membership.
Lymington-based New Forest Growers formed in 1958 as marketing co-operative New Forest Produce. The group buying co-operative formed in 1961. Its philosophy was to buy everything that each glasshouse nursery needed at the best possible price by bulking orders together and to keep overheads low for the benefit of each member.
