He said: "We have been producing rare plants for the wholesale and retail trade for the past 34 years and have been in 'The Plant Suppliers Guide' for most of that time."
There is a final auction of nursery stock on 1 October with HJ Pugh Auctioneers of Ledbury.
The nursery has always specialised in rare and unusual woody plants with a strong emphasis on grafted plants especially Japanese Maples, Oaks, Sorbus and Liquidambars.
The nursery has won numerous RHS medals including ‘Golds’ at RHS shows and has featured in articles in various national publications, including two Nursery profiles by Roy Lancaster in The Garden magazine.
The nursery site is only 1.5 acres and Pattison says it would be difficult to sell it as a going concern as our house is an integral part of the site and a large property with no agricultural tie.
The nursery now has planning for four houses, accepted on appeal.
Pattison plans to move to Cornwall, plant a garden or arboretum and possibly start up a small nursery again in a couple of years.
