Grounds maintenance of the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus involves having a team of seven full-time gardeners based on-site. The grounds include formal gardens, amenity areas, orchard, green roof and wetlands.
"The maintenance of this large science campus in Cambridge is excellent and the result of good contract management and liaison with the client, which includes weekly and monthly site meetings. The maintenance team of seven is very proactive and their attention to environmental factors is impressive.
"They use biodiesel made on-site from chip fat oil, use rechargeable vehicles and equipment and have introduced beehives to the site, which they maintain.
"The contract also requires the maintenance of a large green roof. There are lots of well-maintained grassed areas and tree and hedge planting is carried out each year to improve biodiversity."
