The budding garden designers are tasked with creating a series of themed gardens that are then judged with the weakest contestant being eliminated at the end of each show. Each gardener chose £1,000 of plants from the nursery for a cottage garden challenge in the first episode, broadcast from RHS Harlow Carr.
Johnsons of Whixley plant centre manager Rob Richardson said: "The BBC contacted us a couple of weeks before filming began in mid-August, we explained that the supply of a broad range of garden plants to meet the expectations of four garden designers at very little notice would be tricky – we highlighted that Chelsea designers will be specifying and working with nurseries at least 12 months in advance!". "However, we are delighted – it was a showcase of our range and service and our plants exuded quality".
During the show the designers visited the Xpress Plant Centre and selected from stock immediately available.
Johnsons of Whixley is one Europe’s largest commercial nurseries supplying millions of plants annually via landscape, garden retail and plant centre channels.
