A new study by industry analysts Plimsoll Publishing has identified a group of 56 emerging companies in the UK garden centre industry.
Homebase was 2.6% down in like-for-like sales at £475m according to Home Retail Group's Interim Management Statement for the 18 weeks from 28 August 2011 to 31 December 2011.
Garden centre sales were up 12.5% in December, a full 10% higher than the retail sector average.

Volume declines were compensated by value growth in 2011.
Last year ended on a high with 2.5 per cent gains overall, figures show.
Retail sales volumes grew in the year to December for the first time in seven months, though sales were considered poor for the time of year, the CBI has found.
Garden retail sales in September and October were up 3% and 10% respectively with nursery sales up 6% to the end of October according to the latest HTA Market Update.
Preliminary Experian FootFall Mid-Week UK National Index figures for Week 50 are showing an overall drop of 3.76 per cent compared to the same three days last year (11-14 December).
Garden centre sales for November show a 3.6 per cent rise but Christmas shoppers start slowly.
