Glasshouse opens at gin distillery site

The Heatherwick Studio botanical glasshouse at Bombay Sapphire's new Laverstoke Mill distillery was due to open on 1 October.

The Hampshire distillery, also a visitor centre, encourages visitors to explore the 10 botanicals growing in the glasshouses as part of learning about distilling.

Horticulture and botanicals sessions are among the special events to be offered on site, where there are several buildings refurbished to Heatherwick designs.

The glasshouse planting was installed by Landform Consultants but managing director Mark Gregory expressed frustration that the landscape element had been left to the last minute.

"We were working nights to get it finished in time because the construction company was there during the day," he said. "There wasn't a lot of room."
