Glasgow public realm designed by Gillespies

Landscape architects at Gillespies have designed an extensive public realm for a mixed-use development near the river Clyde in Glasgow.

The land will be stitched together by hard and soft landscape to improve access to the river and give design coherence to shops, cafes, a hotel and ice-skating arena.

Landscape will be used to soften a transport interchange, said a spokeswoman for client Capital Shopping Centres. Designs were submitted to planners last week.

If they approve the project, it will extend a shopping centre in Braehead, west of Glasgow. The new spaces will include a department store as well as conference and exhibition arena.

The practice recently transformed external spaces in Woking including the town square.
