BUKI Australia Ltd is the Bunnings UK Ireland board. Gilliam stepped down as chief executive officer in December. Schneider is director for Bunnings Australia and New Zealand.

Also strengthening the Bunnings UK & Ireland board is newly appointed company secretary Anne Mustow, whose roles have included legal manager for Bunnings in Australia.

Homebase said: "In December we announced John Gillam was stepping down as CEO of Bunnings and as a result, he will no longer sit on a number of boards within the Group.

"John will continue to chair the Bunnings Group Council, which was set up following the acquisition of Homebase to coordinate Bunnings activity across all markets. He will also join the Bunnings UK & Ireland advisory board, alongside Matt Tyson, Archie Norman and Michael Mire, and will continue to spend time in the UK and Ireland as part of his role."

Bunnings first UK pilot for the Homebase chain it bought a year ago from Home Retail Group opens in February in St Albans.

Bunnings veteran PJ Davis runs the UK operation. He spoke at  a BHETA meeting in November 2016 on Bunnings' £500m development plans after the £340m purchase.

There could be 8-10 pilot Bunnings in the UK by the end of 2017. They may follow some of the characteristics of Australian stores.
