Garden trio scoop Malvern show gold

The 26th Malvern Spring Flower Show had a record 47 Gold Medals awarded, beating 2008's 44. There were a record 29 show gardens.

RHS shows development director Bob Sweet said the achievement was "remarkable" given the hot spring weather and cold winter.

Southfield Nurseries won best floral marquee exhibit, while Graduate Gardeners was best show garden, with Hannah Genders the other show garden gold winner, sourcing all materials and plants locally on her bike.

It was a third win for Graduate Gardeners, but next year designers Mark Draper and Stuart Gibbs want to design for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012 instead.

Stroud-based Draper said Malvern had raised the company's profile and he had never been busier: "We did Laurence Llewellyn Bowen's garden a couple of years ago."
