The Surrey centre added £1m to last year's turnover to reach £18m, in the seventh annual publication of the feature, which is the most searched for item at www.HorticultureWeek.co.uk.
Overall, the top 10 centres took more than 10 per cent more - or around £13m extra - than in 2013, reaching £139m, reflecting an improved economy, expanding online sales and the results of redevelopment.
For the first time, the feature includes an online, non-bricks-and-mortar garden centre list, reflecting the move towards web-based sales, with Primrose top at £33m annual turnover. The top five online-only retailers' turnover was £86m.
