Garden centre websites excel in report

Haskins and Garden & Leisure showed a marked improvement in the Sitemorse report, which ranks 500 UK-based retail websites according to their usability, accessibility, performance.

Automated software reads the first 125 pages of each retailer's site to generate a ranked table based on checks to quality, user experience, accessibility, performance and SEO capability.

Haskins Garden Centres that moved up 12 places to 17th with a score of 6.12.

Squire’s Garden Centres moved to 35th, up 55 places.

Garden & Leisure (part of Wyevale Garden Centres) was up 82 places to 114th spot in the list. Wyevale fell 12 places to 121st, while Dobbies Garden Centres fell 48 places to 122nd spot.

Hillier Nurseries scored 2.79 for 266th spot.

Frosts was static at 85th, Van Hage was down 15 at 97th and Suttons was down 29 at 32nd.

Impaired functionality makes up 18 per cent of the score and covers faults that could still be serious but not critical. For example, poor HTML (covered in the Code quality category), missing metadata and email problems that will likely result in an email being delayed.

Performance of the site during the 125-page test, including the average response times and download speed make up 26 per cent of the overall score.

Accessibility counts for 20 per cent and covers the automated testing of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 A and AA.
