Garden centre selling through on space plant

Haskins Garden Centres is selling a plant astronaut Tim Peake grew in space on board the International Space Station.

Zinnia ‘Profusion Orange' (£2.99) is at Haskins' at Ferndown in Dorset, West End in Southampton and Roundstone and Snowhill in West Sussex.

Haskins' Alasdair Urquhart said: "Tim was involved in an experiment to explore the effects of growing plants in micro-gravity and to practice autonomous gardening - a skill that future astronauts will need when on deep space missions."

"It's great that this variety of zinnias is now available at Haskins, and we hope that those interested in anything ‘out of this world' will try and tend to some themselves and share in this historical moment."

He said the plant was a standard line but was selling out after the centres made special space displays of them "as grown in space".
