Garden centre expansion leads to Brantano uplift

Footwear retailer Brantano which opened 20 concessions in 2014, has reported a 6.6 per cent sales increase in the year to December 31 2014.

Like-for-like sales were up 4.8 per cent for the year to December 31. Online sales were up 32 per cent and now account for six per cent of total sales.

Concessions opened by Brantano in 2014, include those at Gates Nurseries and Wyevale's at Brighton and Huntingdon.

First Franchise, which works with Brantano on garden centre concessions, said Brantano would like to add another 50 concessions in garden centres at around 1,000 sq ft each.

The retailer now has 145 stores and 33 concessions. It plans to open a further 25 concessions, mostly in garden centres, in 2015.

Last year Brantano opened two stores and closed five.
