Having worked as a horticulture lecturer and for the National Agricultural Advisory Service, White started Westhorpe 40 years ago. He also worked as a consultant, including overseas, and supported the Plant Propagators trade body.
Former Horticultural Development Company (HDC, now AHDB Horticulture) chairman Neil Bragg said: "Roger was a big supporter of HDC and sat on the vegetable panel. He was highly respected for being innovative and always prepared to support research and development projects and encourage young scientists."
The nursery, which supplies more than 100 million seedlings a year, is now run by his son David and daughter-in-law Julie.
