Former Dobbies and Notcutts chief joins Evans Cycles

Andy King has joined Evans Cycles after John Cleland replaced him at Dobbies Garden Centres following Tesco's sale of the chain.

The private-equity owner of Evans Cycles, ECI Partners, which bought the bike retailer from Active Private Equity for £80m in May 2015, is understood to have hired King as the new chief executive to replace Nick Wilkinson, who left in September.

King, 55, stepped down after three years at Dobbies when Midlothian Capital Partners bought the company in June, but he continues as an adviser to the board.

Internal sources said that King had been found by headhunters at Clarity Search.
