Ferrari to tackle Dorset woodland

Crichel Estate near Wimborne in Dorset has fired up a new Ferrari tractor to help it tame around 600 hectares of mixed woodland.

The machine replaced an earlier Ferrari model bought 11 years ago, which was the first Ferrari tractor to be sold in the UK by the current supplier.

Head forester John Cook said: "The Vega 95RS was bought for use in plantations and narrow strips, which take up a considerable area of our woodland."

The kit runs off a 92HP Daimler engine and has an articulated dual-steer system and reverse drive function.

The tractor, supplied by Lamberhurst Engineering, is paired up to a forestry mulcher, used to clear areas of light hazel, heavy bramble and old man's beard.

Cook said: "We were impressed with the older model's performance, which prompted us to buy the Vega 95RS this year."

Lamberhurst Engineering is the sole UK distributor of Ferrari Tractors, Pellenc electric pruners, Seppi mulchers, Caroni Spa and Brogio.
