Malcolm Scott, of Malcolm Scott Consultants which acted on behalf of Fairways to gain major development approval, said it is thought to be the first new build garden centre on a new site in the last 10 years.

Scott said the consultancy "achieved a good planning result" after a lot of negotiation with the local planning authority concerning the West Midlands green belt site.

The development will include the creation of a nature conservation area including wildlife pond and hibernaculae for protected species, providing an open buffer in the green belt.

Fairways has award-winning centres at Ashbourne and Macclesfield.
