European plant fairs and trials develop

Eight exhibitors have changed location at FlowerTrials, while Groen-Direkt, Plantarium and Hortivation have new programmes.

Following recent changes in the Dutch nursery landscape, eight pot and bedding plant breeders have had to look for a different location to display their innovations in week 24 for the annual FlowerTrials event.

Benary and Volmary will now present their assortment in the glasshouses of Kébol in Rijsenhout.
Fulco Spithoven, area sales manager Benelux at Benary said: "Finding a new location was quite a challenge. In the end, we chose Kébol because of its state of the art facilities combined with large parking area. Also, we hope that the location opposite to Royal Van Zanten will have a positive effect on our visiting numbers."
Cohen, Jaldety and Butterfly Gardens move to Moerheim New Plant. Brandkamp, Lannes and Schneider will exhibit at nursery Green 05 – located in part of the old Peter van de Plas infrastructure - and will remain in Westland. These changes will even out the representation in both Dutch regions.

In the German area Rheinland Westfalen, Kienzler will exhibit much closer to the other participating breeders. Their new location in Geldern-Walbeck near Straelen makes a visit to this region considerably easier.

Andreas Kientzler said: "Even though our show garden in Gensingen is wonderful, we wanted to exhibit much closer to the Dutch border. Furthermore, we wanted to show our assortment in an authentic atmosphere to offer our visitors maximum inspiration. Schloss Waldeck meets both of these requirements perfectly."

The 52 FlowerTrials exhibitors can be found at 30 different locations spread over the three regions.

Meanwhile, at Boskoop the Autumn Fair organised by GROEN-Direkt (24-26 August) is coinciding with the Plantarium fair (24-27 August), with more than 500 growers, 200 trading companies and 50 suppliers.

A shuttle service will be providing transport between the two venues.

Since 2015, GROEN-Direkt and Plantarium have been working together under the name of ‘Ticket2Boskoop’.

Another European fair is in June, Messe Essen's Hortivation. Landgard is promoting Flowers - 1,000 Good Reasons at the show, on June 13-15 Messe Kalkar, near Dusseldorf, Germany.

According To Edwards ... Changes large and small anticipated for UK producers

No one knows the changes that Brexit will impose on the UK over time. Some will surely be massive and they are already being guessed at. But there will be little changes too and some of those will ripple out over time to surprisingly large effect. I don't pretend to know what will happen, but it's fun to speculate.
