Efco 8250IC and 8250 Ergo

Efco’s best-seller has been revamped. It is 20 per cent lighter than last season’s model, much more comfortable to use and delivers a performance that must rank as one of the best in its class.
There are two versions available. We like them both. The 8250IC unit is loop handled. This year, we find the handles have been pushed further apart, which gives much better control and improved manoeuvrability. We also like the textured, non-slip, “comfy-grip” finish. The shaft is five centimetres longer, so our testers are able to work from a more upright and natural stance.
The 8250 has an aluminium handlebar that provides greater leverage for a smooth side-to-side movement and wide cutting arc. “There’s plenty of power. It makes fast progress and leaves a good quality finish,” says Blake.
Both units come with easy-to-fill, twin-line Tap ’n’ Go cutting heads, plus blade and harness. Options include a hedge-trimming attachment with a 48cm blade that can be rotated through 270? and a 20cm chainsaw head for powered lopping and pruning.
“The 8250 is a brilliant bit of kit,” says one tester. “It’s very versatile and yet easy to use. I can’t get over how light and comfortable it is. Both machines are easy to start, with low noise and vibration. They’re definitely value for money.”
