Eden Project directors win jubilee gongs from the Queen

Eden Project directors Peter Stewart and Rita Broe have won honours from the Queen for work involving Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

The two were dubbed Members of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) for taking lead roles in the Big Jubilee Lunch, led by the Eden Project and cash from Big Lottery Fund and partners MasterCard, EDF Energy, Kingsmill and Asda.

The event in June attracted 8.5m participants around the UK and people in 70 countries across the globe who used the festival meal to celebrate the Jubilee and try to build stronger communities.

Peter Stewart is Eden Project campaigns and communications director while Rita Broe is strategic marketing director. Their awards formed part of the Diamond Jubilee Honours List,

Joint chief executive Sir Tim Smit said: "It is a fantastic tribute to the wider Big Lunch and Eden teams and all the local organisers who have pulled together to help bring community and friendship to the UK and abroad."

The Big Lunch led by the Eden Project has prompted thousands of community lunches since its launch in 2009. The Big Jubilee Lunch on 3 June received a message of support from The Queen.
