The conservatory glasshouse, built by Smiemans, features automatic roof vents, shading and thermal screening, all remotely controlled by a rooftop weather station. The building is double glazed with safety glass and argon gas has been injected between the panes, for extra insulation.

BHC of Midlothian was builder. The structure has underfloor heating throughout. There is an integral drive-in store with pallet racking and a polycarbonate roofed section to house tender plants.

Other features include a biomass boiler linked to the Renewable Heat Incentive. The car park is gravel rather than paving, while rainwater is harvested from the roof.

Managing director Nick Crabbie said: "We have a great site and an outstanding building. Our greatest asset is carefully recruited and enthusiastic local staff."
