Duchy College garden design HND begins under Matt James

Duchy College Rosewarne's first garden design course is being taught by Channel 4's 'City Gardener' Matt James, who is now managing the new Higher National Diploma (HND) in Garden & Landscape Design at Rosewarne.

The former University College Falmouth garden designer said: "I’m delighted to be teaching on the HND at Duchy College. The course has a strong professional focus and is designed for both those who what to kick start a new career and those who want to gain an understanding of landscape design for more holistic reasons. We’ll be working with projects in the local community, competing at garden shows as well as refining design planning skills in our new purpose built studio. Lots of hands-on learning and practical sessions mixed with theory."

During the course students will study a variety of subjects including design communication using both traditional media and IT, garden & landscape history, planting design, user-focused design, sustainability, professional practice and landscape construction.

Duchy Collge head Andrew Counsell added: "We are thrilled to offer a more creative horticultural path and delighted to welcome Matt James to the team at Rosewarne. His wide portfolio of expertise and passion for the subject is already enthusing the students and we hope this will become an extremely popular course."

The HND is equivalent to the first two years of a degree. All undergraduate courses at Duchy College are awarded by Plymouth University.
