Project manager Dan Pass said: "We sell 1.5m phalaenopsis a year to UK supermarkets, but we don’t know our customer, [we are] not public facing, so we created the loveorchids.co.uk website to reach out to the public and offer care advice."
He said it was a fallacy that phalaenopsis is difficult to look after. The reality is they’re very easy - water once week, they flower for months and are good value.
"We don’t shout about them being UK grown, though there are probably only two commercial phalaenopsis producers in the UK - us and Hills.
The grower launched Phalaenopsis 'Sunny Smell' at the show, reaching the short list for plant of the year.
Double H's Guy Grimshaw said the phalaenopsis is the first scented variety of the UK's most popular houseplant widely available in the UK.
