Anthos Plants, the former Van Den Broek Nurseries, was taken over six years ago and is now having a care home built on the green belt site by the landlord, who is rebuilding the nursery after the council required the work as a condition for the care home's approval.
The old structures have been demolished. This spring there will be a five-span tunnel from McGregors, a twin span shadehouse, offices, beds and irrigation systems.
After a six-year wait, and at the third time of asking, the landlord obtained planning permission to construct a 60-bed nursing home and new nursery buildings on the current site.
The nursery had ongoing issues of poor drainage and ageing infrastructure. Redevelopment began in August 2014 and should be completed this summer.
The 1ha nursery grows for the amenity market and hopes to attract more garden designers with herbaceous shrubs in the future.
