DEFRA launches landscape prize

New competition launched to highlight outstanding landscaping.

Exceptional landscaping projects are to be showcased in a national competition held by DEFRA. The Council of Europe Landscape Award will honour projects with a high standard of landscaping that can be used as an example to European local authorities. The award is a compulsory part of the European Landscape Convention, an international agreement that aims to ensure the importance of landscape is recognised formally across Europe. The Landscape Institute (LI) has confirmed that it is launching the award on DEFRA’s behalf but is unable to give out any further details at this early stage. An LI representative said: “There is yet to be a confirmed date as to when it will go ahead. There should be confirmation of this in March. In the meantime we are not able to say anything further about it.”
