Curtis Allen, product manager, Charterhouse Turf Machinery

What does your typical day involve?

I never really have a typical day. My job involves me being in all sorts of places at all times of the day.

On a routine "office day" I will be in the office by 8.30am. On other days I may be up early and on the way to meetings, demonstrations or the airport.

What takes up most of your time?

Travelling and talking - though with the use of hands-free, I can combine both of these.

Do you get out of the office as much as you would like?

I seem to do stints of being in the office and out on the road, depending on the weather mainly. I enjoy being out of the office far more than I enjoy being in it. I try to get out of the office as much as possible but it can be difficult when it's all hands to the pumps.

What's the best aspect of your job?

By far it must be meeting a huge variety of people and going to some special places. I also enjoy the fact that I have a lot of diversity in my job and no two days are ever the same.

And the worst?

Paperwork - it has to be done though. Oh, and pre-show machine polishing. A meticulous sales manager always checks for fingerprints and dust.

What piece of kit can you not do without?

It would have to be my BlackBerry. I can run my entire year on it as well as it helping me to respond to customers quickly. Second to my phone would be my car. I think I spend more time with my car than I do with my girlfriend.

How do you relax after work?

My passion is motorbikes and music. I love nothing more than a ride in the evening to clear my head and a good CD - until the BlackBerry bleeps.

What does the future hold?

I enjoy travelling and hope to do that more. I believe that while synthetics will never replace natural turf, it will certainly give it a run over the next few years.
