Consumer gardening magazines bought by German publisher Burda

German publisher Burda has bought Immediate Media, including top seller Gardener's World and also Gardens Illustrated magazine.

German companies now own most major UK consumer paid-for garden magazines, with Garden News, Garden Answers and Modern Gardens already owned by Bauer in Peterborough.

Immediate Media also publishes Radio Times. The UK group comprises around 70 magazine titles, has 1,350 staff and claims to sell 76m magazines a year and attract 35m monthly users online.

Immediate Media was formed in 2011 after the BBC sold its magazines division to Exponent Private Equity. It was combined with Magicalia and Origin publishing.

Amateur Gardening is owned by US company Time Inc.

In the trade magazine sector, Haymarket, Horticulture Week's publisher, also owns German horticulture trade magzine Taspo.
