Christmas tree market sees big price differentials

As real Christmas trees come into garden centres this weekend, prices are differing markedly between retailers.

Aldi will be selling Nordman firs up to 110cm (3ft 6in) for £11.99 from December 6 and taller Nordmans (up to 180cm/5ft 9in) for £19.99.

JTF will be selling £9.99 trees. JTF said: "The Nordmann Fir trees that JTF Mega Discount Warehouse are selling are the best value Christmas trees in the UK and are very competitively priced, even compared to Aldi."

The 20,000 German-grown trees are available from JTF's 13 Mega Discount Warehouses across the UK.

Waitrose has a six foot Nordman at £75.  Garden centre stocked 6ft trees will be up to £50, similar to 2014.

Among artificial trees, Wilko also offers a £30, 6ft Christmas tree in a set with 50 decorations and 100 clear fairy lights, while Hayes Garden World is selling a full decorated tree for £251.99 a - 6.5ft pre-lit Liberty Pine. Hayes will supply free spare bulbs for 15 years from purchase.

Real Christmas trees are available in greater numbers this year from the continent because of factors including the weak euro and over-production.
