Cherwell Council approves Bicester sports complex plans

Cherwell District Council has approved plans to build a 17ha sports complex in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

The complex will include a synthetic third generation football pitch, an athletics track, tennis courts, a cricket pitch, three rugby pitches and play area.

Land for the project will be available through an agreement to build a housing development south-west of Bicester.

The council also hopes to win funding from Sport England and the Football Foundation.

Cherwell District Council councillor George Reynolds said:

"There's going to be a growth in sports participation, not only in the run-up to the London Olympics but also when the games are over. Coupled with a growing population, we want to be sure that Bicester has first-rate facilities that meet the demand.

Completion is scheduled for 2012, depending on the housing developers’ start date.
