The City of New York's director of tree preservation Matthew Wells will spend 2 days sharing his knowledge and tips on formulating the economic case for urban trees.
The department carried out detailed statistical research which showed a 5-fold return on investment in street trees.
Barcham Trees sales director Keith Sacre and Bristol City Council's senior arboricultural officer Russell Horsey will visit New York next month.
Sacre explained the purpose is to explore more fully how the department carried out its cost benefit analysis of urban trees, and secured $220m.
"I want to look at the whole scenario and find out how the New York department arrived at their data and got political support," said Sacre, who will report to the Arboricultural Association after his visit at the beginning of March.
"I will be exploring the practicalities of [New York] being committed to planting 20,000 extra street trees each year. There is an enormous overview we will be cramming into 2 days."
