Castle built in Coventry play space

A ruined castle is part of a play space designed by landscape architect Roger Griffiths Associates (RGA) being created in Coventry.

Willenhall Brookstray play space was awarded funding for the transformation through the Department for Children, Schools & Families Playbuilder scheme.

A programme of community engagement events, undertaken by RGA and Adept Community Development Agency, raised ideas that were incorporated into the design.

A football pitch with stones for goals is part of the design, which also incorporates a drawbridge, castle courtyard and giant thrones.

Climbable castle walls, balancing logs and stepping stones are intended to allow children to use their imagination as they play.

The work follows a petition that was handed to Coventry City Council in 2006 calling for a play space for the area.

The £100,000 project is being constructed by Bernhard's Landscapes and will be completed at the end of this month.
