How did you get started? I happened to know the owner of the company and I was looking for some part-time work. I started off as a runner and then I went full time in September. I only finished school last year so it has been a bit of a shock to the system, but it is good and it is interesting and I get to meet a lot of different people.

What does your typical day involve? There is a lot of putting in orders, buying stock, helping out the customers and occasionally working on the tills. There are lots of different parts to it all really.

What takes up most of your time? The buying is probably the biggest part of the job. Checking what stock we are missing or low on and then ordering it can take a long time — and getting hold of certain stock for customers can be quite time consuming.

What is the best part of your job? My lunch break! No, it is probably helping the customers and I like selling and dealing with people as much as possible.

And the worst? Making tea is never fun. But seriously, it is probably working on the tills because you can just be standing there all day, which obviously can get a little boring.

How do you wind down after a hard day's work? I like watching films and I read a lot. I generally enjoy dramas or action films and I love reading a lot of plays. I occasionally go up to London for the theatre. I also enjoy bird-watching, which is why I am getting involved in the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds' Big Garden Bird Watch with the Garden Centre Group garden centres' bird-watching competition.

What does the future hold? Hopefully, I'm going to go to drama school. I would love to do something with acting. When I'm older I would like to get more into gardening and learn more about plants.
