Top-flight landscape architects, writers and academics have been chosen by Cabe Space to help 30 local authorities get the most from their urban parks, play areas and green spaces.

Top-flight landscape architects, writers and academics have been chosen by Cabe Space to help 30 local authorities get the most from their urban parks, play areas and green spaces. Chris Blandford, principal of Chris Blandford Associates and Chris Churchman, principal of Churchman Landscape Architects form part of the new advisory panel. Well-known names include big thinkers Professor Chris Baines, Liz Greenhalgh and Ken Worpole. The 30 authorities will be the first to benefit from one-to-one advice and seminars from the Cabe Space advisory scheme. Over the next five months the panel will work with the councils to form green-space strategies. The 52 advisors were chosen through a competitive application process in September. They will help local authorities identify the quantity and quality of green spaces in their area, consult with local communities and win local political support. Regeneration minister Yvette Cooper, said: “We need to reclaim our city parks and green spaces with good design more investment and better management.” By 2006 Cabe Space aims make sure all councils have improved their open spaces. The first councils chosen by Cabe Space include Allerdale Borough Council, Bolton Metropolitan Borough Council, Bristol City Council, City of Lincoln Council, Durham County Council, Harlow District Council and Hastings Borough Council.
